The girl who started it all

A great article about the woman who got out there, proved the guys wrong and finished Boston in spite of many challenges on the race course along the way. A great piece of history for females in sport.

Hey Krissy…Yes, I’m hoping to leave this Friday after a final interview. I am hoping to hit CO, UT, CA, OR and then WY in that order. I would love any suggestions!!. I only have about 18 Days so a lot to pack in!

Thanks

Ha - I remember watching this on TV ... were you even born you younin' you? It is a great story and fun to revisit. I remember how angry I was at those clowns. Seems hysterical now-a-days. That's a testiment to what she did for the sport for women. *tc

I met a fellow here in Seattle who was about four people away from her when that happened. He was from Syracuse and their gang was running it with her. He told me about that right after I qualified a couple years ago. Gave me goosebumps to be that close to history!

Check out BOLD SPIRIT: Helga Estby's forgotten walk across Victorian America by Linda Lawrence Hunt. After my run across America I started researching all the early crossings running or walking and came across this amazing woman who went from Spokane, WA to NYC, NY in 1896. Enjoy!
